How Luxury Hotels Are Re-Imaging Cleanliness

We live for travel. We live for luxury. And we definitely always lived for sparkling clean properties, but now even more, given the pandemic. AKA properties have always been one of our faves.  We had a chance to catch up with the brand recently to find out what's on the horizon in new standards of clean given wellness is beyond top-of-mind for us all now.  Here's what we can look forward to as the accommodations section of travel re-opens little-by-little.

Recently, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) introduced Safe Stay, a program of enhanced health and safety protocols designed to prepare US hotels to welcome back guests and employees. While major brands like Hilton and Marriott have enacted company-wide cleanliness measures, boutique and local hotels have also stepped up their game. Indeed, the Philadelphia-based long-stay brand AKA has continued to expand its rigorous cleanliness procedures.

They told us that all the company's properties are using a safer bleach alternative and highest hospital-grade disinfectant classification products including Evaclean, a registered and Certified EPA hospital grade disinfectant with 1-minute dwell time.  At AKA you'll also now fin state-of-the-art sanitation and disinfection procedures using electrostatic sprayers.

But naturally, timing is everything. So AKA is now implementing increased cleaning frequency of all public spaces and high traffic areas and surfaces including door handles, elevator buttons, stairwell railings. This is all part of an impressive 100-point checklist to ensure that every surface is sanitized to the max. They've even considered things down to the tools so now even special cleaning cloths designated for each area within a suite will be used to maximize cleanliness and sanitation

Of course, the cleanliness superstar hand-sanitizer is on the list, too. Anti-microbial hand sanitizer stations containing at least 60% alcohol in accordance with CDC Guidelines are now available throughout each property. But it's also about caring for the AKA staff, itself, so masks, gloves and other protective gear provided for all team members.

And if you're like us and just a little freaked out by having to touch the devices to put your code in for payment, fear not. Apple Pay and Android Wallet are also accepted at all locations for contact-free payment.

While we all can't wait to relax such vigilance soon, it never hurts to step up the cleaning game. Wellness should not be a luxury.

Here's hoping you can rest easy as you make your way back out into the wide world!
