Starting Off With A Bang!

There's already so much to keep up with that it's mind-boggling.  Juggling interview times, screening times, premieres, events, parties - wow. Life is hard. LOL Many times the negotiating and diplomacy involved in all this is that which is most critical and is usually left unsaid. So let's just say it here in this coverage. Some people are so gracious and professional, others (usually lowest on the totem pole) use it as some ephemeral power-grab associated with would-be gatekeeping in an industry built upon exclusivity. It's actually all such an interesting study in human behavior. More on this as the Festival builds.

In the meantime, here are fun shots of the ever-fab Jennifer Lopez on the red carpet for the world premiere of "Halftime" (again: all synopsis of films to which I refer are here) on June 10th.  I like this image of her with DeNiro, too. Who else was there? Well, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Hoda Kotb, Ryan Seacrest, French Montana, Melissa & Joe Gorga, Lorraine Schwartz, Paula Weinstein, Tommy Mottola, Tayshia Adams, Stacy London, Rosanna Arquette.

Between this and the ultra-exclusive Chanel filmmakers luncheon for women, these were probably the biggest buzz winners of the day.  So, Jane Rosenthal and Paula Weinstein hosted THROUGH HER LENS: The Tribeca CHANEL Womens Filmmaker Program. The afternoon gathering was a celebration of ALL women creators telling stories everywhere throughout the festival — film, TV, VR, Audio/Podcasts, experiential and more. I'd love to tell you where this was, but I wasn't invited so, there you have it, however, notables like Pam Grier and Piper Perabo were.  This is the culmination of a three-day immersive program that includes one-on-one mentorship, masterclasses focused on script-to-screen development, music composition, costume design, producing, and directing. Participants will work with mentors to shape and refine their projects and pitches. Then they pitch their projects to a jury of industry experts. One team receives full financing to produce their short film with support from Tribeca Studios. The four other projects are awarded grant funds to support their films’ development. This partnership between Chanel and Tribeca has actually been going strong since 2005. Interesting.

Onto today which was a nice preview of the Immersive offering featuring amazing content leveraging VR, AR, 3D, holographs, and more.  The projects dealing both with Zanzibar and the creation of an LGBTQ+ VR museum are true standouts. See the full offering here.  And then peep some of the photos I took while going through the collection!

So, that's it for the moment. Much, much more to come tomorrow!
