The Verdict On The Colin Kaepernick Docu

"Kaepernick & America" made its Tribeca At Home debut, and it didn't miss many beats.  Whether for or against this professional athlete-turned-activist, the viewer will find that the film does a solid job of humanizing a figure who is seen as mythic and polarizing.  The childhood back story coupled with the rise to professional glory mixed with the stunningly racist remarks curated from news clips, tp near-academic commentary from the formerly ubiquitous DeRay Mckesson to the behind-the-scenes insights from journalist Steve Wyche all work together to weave a story that is definitely compelling.  In eye-candy news, Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) and fiancé Megan Fox walked the carpet at the world premiere of Taurus at Beacon Theatre along with Director Tim Sutton and cast members Maddie Hasson and Naomi Wild. Here's what you may have missed, below.

The D.O.C., a much-coveted combo of world premiere plus hot hip hop concert took place on Friday, June 11th.  The sad thing is that once again this year, in-demand events are squeezed into smaller-sized venues in Manhattan, and by the time certain firms wield their random, mysterious algorithmic methods for selecting who is in and who is out, the music has stopped. Fear not.  Thanks to the magic of social media, direct contact has been made with The D.O.C. himself and alternative methods for later connection are in progress. File under: unstoppable.  😉

A moment here about an amazing offering in Immersive.  A must-catch is Zanzibar: Trouble in Paradise.  This emerging tech treat leverages genuine holographic images to tell the story of a group of women in Zanzibar who progress to financial independence via seaweed farming, only to face peril due to climate change shifts. A special team pulls off this machine-learning and volumetric video triumph. Zanzibar native Ashraki Mussa Machano collaborates with Steve Charles Jaffe who has a long and storied career working with biggies from John Huston to Kathryn Bigelow.  LdC rating: 💄💄💄💄

Oh!  Shout out to the "It Ain't Over" team for inviting me to the post-screening reception at the always fab Tribeca Grill. When shoots run overtime, that is when one wishes for a clone. Definitely catch ya next time.
